1. Refer back to your family of origin; this was your first example of marriage. How did your family values influence your view of marriage? For the good and bad?
2. How do you see yourself in a marriage? Will you assume traditional gender roles? How will that affect your identity?
3. Is there something missing in your “sense of self” that you hope your partner will fulfill?
4. What persona / self-image did you create to navigate single life? What kind of partner did you think you would attract?
5. Did you have many relationships before marriage? How did you come to decide this was your person?
6. If yes, what patterns of behavior were necessary during those relationships? What patterns did you maintain? What did you leave behind? Why?
7. Are there things about your single life that you miss? What are they? How can you incorporate them into your marriage together?
8. Now that you’re married, what do you really want from this relationship?Are you aware of what your partner wants? What is that?
9. How do you see your life together now that you’re not alone?
